It's never easy getting bombed out of the cup & I get fan's disappointment, but like fellow postees I witnessed some uncomfortable behaviour from fans throughout the game.
To me supporter means support! There were more than a few idiots who spent the WHOLE game slagging of players & manager. No one was safe.
Tommy Wright, how long has been a manager? He's not going to be an Alec Ferguson overnight, some would say he's a miracle. Worker with successful sojourns in to Europe ...oh and a wee trophy he brought back to Perth for the first time in 130 years! On a budget the size of pea! I have never heard him really make a big deal or use the budget as an excuse for bad performances like some others would.
I don't expect anyone to agree with me, but when I think of some of the folk we could have as manager I think we are really lucky⚽️

I honestly think Kane, Brown and possibly Caddis have what it takes to step up to this standard of football.  We are traditionally a selling club, and despite not making megabucks of May, put ourselves in the shop window by his talent.  What better opportunity to give these youngsters match time and secure both their futures in bigger leagues and our own financial security.  I fail to see how playing McDonald and Graham is doing us any favours both on the pitch or off when we've got young raw talent that are already better players.

We've got a brilliant youth setup now with some promising kids at various age levels.  We need to be building on the media fuss around May and becoming the next club that teams down south keep an eye on.

Very, very happy at the response from the team. I was one of those who thought we might get a drubbing. Great to wake up after seeing that performance last night.
Delighted with Kane, he is still learning and that run out last night will have done wonders for his football education plus having Macca about to guide him etc will help him advance. Just like May did I think that over the coming months he will learn how to use body strength to his advantage.
Really pleased that neither Graham nor McDonald were on the pitch. Good to see Davidson back too. Let's hope we can persuade Mannus to stay on, he definitely saves us a few valuable points. And we have young George waiting to come through the ranks, pleasing times. So Tommy, let's have more attack minded set ups, more getting out of the traps quickly, getting into the other teams face, not let them settle, harry and close them down and play higher up the park. Let's cement our top six place and start hunting down those immediately above us. Well done for last nights effort but we need to maintain that focus.

Took time out to visit his old secondary school in Perth this afternoon after he finished training.

Around 80 kids were playing small sided games and Spoony joined in and made sure he spoke to all the kids involved.

He also took part in an open question and answer session with the kids which was brilliant. He then took time to make sure all the kids got all the autographs and pictures that they wanted.

Hi guys, thanks for the comments. I can confirm I will be taken on by the club in a full-time capacity in just over three weeks time. The job will be media/PR related and will be properly announced in due course.

In the mean-time, if you have a spare couple of pounds get donating to our Just Giving page to make sure Tommy Wright and the Saints coaching staff have to do what the players did today with the ice bucket challenge. Again, all money raised goes directly to Macmillan Cancer Support: https://www.justgiving.com/St-Johnstone-Football-Club1

I heard a rumour Paul Smith might also get involved…

Walking down the Dunkeld road, a young lad with a mixture of excitement, nerves and bewilderment.  Happy that I was getting to spend time with my Dad and Granddad, I was now old enough to go to something the ‘big boys’ went to!  I was going to see Perth’s team, our team

Newly bought blue and white scarf round my neck, sporting the latest Umbro tracksuit, past the club the smell of stale booze wafting out from the dark smoky interior, a glimpse inside, a whole other world opens up…..

Moving on and through the stiff, rusty turnstile, I was in!  The smell of pies and bovril permeated the air, cut by a smoky cry of “50/50 Draw!”.

We stopped!  All I wanted to do was climb the seemingly massive stairs rising into sky.  I was handed a pie and a ticket, I was sure I was going to win, I would be rich!!! ….It never happened!

Onto the stairs, with each step the grey sky giving way to a floodlight, a triangular roof with its rust and pigeon streaked adverts, for SKOL, Grassicks, GS Brown.

Further up we climbed to reveal a mix of tartan bunnets, blue tammies, scarfs, the occasional blow up banana or skeleton also bedecked in its own Saints colours, all crowded together in the massive concrete amphitheatre between crumbling barriers and thistles the excitement and passion in the air was palpable.

An announcement “you can get your programs and souvenirs at the little yellow kiosk”

Then we were at the top, then I saw it!  The hallowed turf!  Rutted now, missing some of its lustre.. and turf but to me still held a majesty, still beautiful.

Taking in the whole scene in front of me, I could almost see the stories I had been told of, Carr, McCarry, Connolly and Aird.

Pipe smoke drifted in the air, I was hooked!

My story is regarding our grandfather Bertram Sampson who was born 17 Jan 1886 in Perth Scotland, and died 23 April 1917 in the Battle of Arras, France & Flanders. His regiment was the 1st/7th Black Watch (Royal Highlanders). The Battalion suffered heavy casualties, 25 other ranks killed and 123 wounded. In 1916 Bertram was sent home on Compassionate Leave as he sustained a "shrapnel wound" to his neck, he recovered and was sent back to fight once again, but sadly was K.I.A. leaving a wife and six children. Before he enlisted Bertram was a professional football player with the local team St Johnstone, in the centre half back position. His registration with the Scottish Football Assoc. was dated 14th May 1907, at the age of 21. From the age of 16 he was an avid football player, and played with many local junior teams. The St Johnstone team lost eight of their players in the First World War. Our grandfather Bertram is mentioned quite extensively in the very rare copy of the "Official St Johnstone FC History from 1886-1997", along with his grandson (my brother Brian Sampson} who also played professional football for St Johnstone, our local team. Bertram is buried in the Brown's Copse Cemetery, Roeux, France.

Really depressed with all the news of Rotherham interest. The fact that Saints have posted that the clubs are in talks sounds to me that SB wants a deal done.
Not even into the new season yet and I feel like I have been slapped and that all the great feel good factor has been sucked out of us. Recent events haven't filled me with a lot of hope. The club have done diddly squat about securing a better extension on Stevie's contract, there is no sign of a new contract for TW.

We should have been on a high, using it to build confidence. Ok so we all know that Stevie May is going to leave but surely you would work behind the scenes to get it right to ensure the club makes as much out of it as possible. Look at how Dundee Utd have got it right with Gauld and Robertson and I am sure they will have done/ will do similar with other players. They are now in a position of being able to say we don't need to sell. It makes them stronger as a club and means that any sales in the future will command more money for them.
Where we differ from Utd is that we don't have a ready replacement for May, Kane isn't ready yet. I would prefer for us to hang onto Stevie (unless a serious big bid is made), get a contract extension sorted so that the club can reap a benefit.

Why can't SB be doing similar? Ok, so I understand that Saints need to sell to bring in money to keep us afloat and to shore up our future but at the moment it is like we are saying any offer will do and we will take one well below our estimate. By getting a contract sorted out early even if it means spending a bit more cash we would be saying we think he is a great prospect, we value him, we will keep him until the time, price and club is right.

Perhaps there are other factors going on behind closed doors but like all good card players don't show your hand too early. We should not be accepting peanuts for a player who should and can command a better fee. It certainly isn't a feel good factor when we are sitting here wondering what the ***k is going on just a few weeks away from the start of our season and it is looking likely that we have no plan B if May goes. Well that's enough depression for me on a Saturday morning! Ps perhaps Stevie will get a run out at Andos testimonial, hope it is not his last appearance in a Saints jersey.

I was suspicious early doors about the delay in contracts for Wright and May and the longer it has gone on has heightened my suspicion. May and his sudden injury susceptibility is also strange. I was inclined to see everything through my blue tinted specs as I never thought my beloved Saints batted with anything other than a straight bat. In 50 plus years of supporting and following my team, I have never felt so confused and uncomfortable as to what is, allegedly or not, going on.
