DISCUSSION

1. Welcome from the Chairperson and Apologies Gary welcomed everyone to the meeting and noted there were apologies from Stewart.

2. Minutes from the previous meeting on 30 August 2012 – the minutes were approved.

3. Home buses update – Ricky advised that the last 5 buses had made an overall profit of £194.50.

4. Away buses update – Gordon advised that Hearts had made a profit of £230, Motherwell a profit of £79, Hibs a loss of £43 and Ross Co a profit of £218. There was an overall profit of £484. On the Ross Co bus a signed Eskisehirspor pennant was auctioned off and raised £110 and an Eskisehirspor scarf was bought for £22. There were 39 people on the Ross Co bus which Gordon felt was slightly disappointing. He thought this could have been as a result of the Jeanfield 208 (leaving from Muirton Suite) buses running from McDiarmid Park for £5. He advised that this was due to St Johnstone subsidising one of their buses. Gordon had attended a meeting at McDiarmid Park on Monday and had queried if this price was a one-off for the Ross Co game but was informed this would be the prices for the whole season for any bus with more than 30 people booked on it. Gordon said it was his understanding that Steve Brown supported this idea. Gordon voiced at the meeting that he felt this was unfair on the other supporters clubs and asked if St Johnstone could subsidise the other supporters clubs’ buses as a way of thanking the fans. However, he did not get an answer. Ricky felt that the main issue was that the Jeanfield 208 buses were getting a benefit which no other supporters clubs were getting. He felt that it was inconsiderate that we were raising monies for St Johnstone which in turn they were giving to the Jeanfield 208 to subsidise their buses. Ricky suggested that a letter be written to Steve Brown regarding this situation and expressing our committee’s displeasure at the detriment to the other supporters clubs. Gordon’s proposal was that we matched whatever the Jeanfield 208 were charging for their buses. Ricky did not think that in business terms it was a good idea to compete. Gordon suggested reducing the prices to £5 per person as from the Dundee game. He advised there were 43 names down for this bus. Alan suggested keeping the current prices for the Dundee bus as people were willing to pay this and await a response to our letter to Steve Brown. If no response was received, a decision could be made as to whether or not we should reduce the prices for future buses. Gordon suggested putting this to a vote and this was seconded by Phil. 5 people voted in favour of reducing the prices, 9 people voted against and 1 person abstained. The decision was therefore made that the prices would not be reduced for the Dundee bus. Ricky will draft a letter to be sent to Steve Brown and e-mail this to all the committee members and put this on WAP for comments. Once any additions have been made, and it has been approved, this will be signed by Gary in his capacity as chairperson.

5. Treasurers update – Alan advised that there was a current balance of £6482.17 in the bank account. He is to meet up with Gordon on 28 September to receive his sponsorship money. During the meeting Gav gave Alan the sponsorship money he has collected to date. He is hoping to do the walk on 13 October and will collect the remaining sponsor monies after he has completed it. Alan said he has still not received a bill from St Johnstone for the tops for the youth teams.

6. Raffle for hospitality away day – Gordon advised that he had spoken with Mike Crichton last week regarding the printing of the raffle tickets and had been informed that there had been technical problems. He spoke to Mike again recently and was advised that he was still working on them. He messaged Mike again and has not heard back. He asked if someone else could deal with this. Alan will e-mail Gus the details of the hospitality away day as per the letter from St Johnstone and Gus will organise for 300 raffle tickets to be printed.

7. Former Chairman’s Dinner – Gordon said he should receive the tickets next week and once these were available he would pick them up from McDiarmid Park and contact everyone for payment. He confirmed that all 16 tickets we asked for have been sold.

8. Comedy night – Gus confirmed that everything was in place. The tablecloths have been ordered and the food organised. 160 tickets have been printed and were handed out as follows – Gus (30), Lynn (11), Stewart (8), Ricky (10), Gary (30), Phil (10), Tony H (10), Alan (10), Gav (10), I Scott (10) and the remaining 21 will be put behind the bar.

9. Future fundraising events – at present the fundraising events organised and in the pipeline are the comedy night, hospitality away day raffle, parlour derby (to be held in February) and a Christmas shelf raffle (to be discussed in the October meeting). Gus said he knew someone who could do a whisky tasting night and suggested this was something we could look at for next year. RMcE suggested holding a Kasbah night on a Sunday. It was agreed this was a good idea (for the club as opposed to a fundraiser) but it would be better held on a Friday. Roy was advised to speak to Ian behind the bar to check available dates for the function room and then explore this with John.

10. AOCB

Sponsored walk – Gus advised that he had e-mailed Scott Gordon to check if he could do the walk with Gav on 13 October. He has not yet received a response. He said he would be looking for someone who could drop off Gav and Scott at the end of the Dundee Road to start the walk. RMcE was not sure if he could be the support vehicle for Gav and Scott as he thought he could be working that weekend but he would check his work rota.

Polo shirts – Gus said he had taken the sample polo shirt on to the bus to Ross Co and had taken 20 orders. He asked that if anyone else wanted shirts they should see him after the meeting.

Gordon tendered his resignation from the committee. He confirmed he would still be the bus convenor for the Dundee game.

11. Date of next meeting and close – the date of the next meeting was agreed and the meeting was brought to a close.

Good work getting the minutes on here so soon after the actual meeting.

Disappointing that St Johnstone are, in effect, undercutting the Barossa club buses (and any other supporter's club buses for that matter).

Question - what happens to profits from supporter's buses? If these are normally handed to Saints by way of sponsorship, maybe they could be re-invested in the Barossa club to spruce the place up a bit?

Ghostie explained in detail what happened at Monday nights secret 7 meeting.

We were told at the weekend that saints had paid for one of the buses leaving from the Muirton suite.

We were also able to establish that the Muirton Suite bus will run for a fiver every week so long as there is at least 30 people on it, which there will be.

WAP Barossa St was set up to put funds into saints through fund raising events. We need a strong membership and running buses to home and away games and having a base for saints fans in town is all part of making this a success.

Through hard work and a lot of support from loads of fans this has been very succesful.

We have already given saints £5,500 this year and our aim is to raise and donate at least £10,000 every year.

In addition to the money that WAP Barossa ST have been donating the actual saints club at Barossa St have also stated that as profits increae they will look to start donating to saints again. They used to put in 10k per year.

Ghostie was pretty incensed at what happened at the meeting on Monday. The rest of the committee and others in attendance last night are also very disappointed that saints have chosen to subsidise the Muirton suite buses.

There seems no point in WAP Barossa St raising funds for saints only for saints to subsidise the travel of another travel club. That just does not make sense.

Gary is writing directly to Steve Brown and we will meet again once we receive a response.

Needless to say none of us are happy with what has happened but we will wait for a response from saints before deciding what to do.

Ghostie has been brilliant, and is welcome back at anytime ,but we need to resolve this issue or there will be plenty of others taking the same stance.

Regardless of where this ends up we are all saints fans and will continue to support the team.

Well said GBRA. You have summed up my feelings on the subject and others who attended the meeting.

As stated GHOSTIE has been a big player and VOICE in the raising of funds for the benefit of St. Johnstone F.C.

Don't think Saints appreciate how much work he puts in for his beloved football team.

We certainly value his contribution and I hope that an amicable solution can be found to get Ghostie back 'onside'

Exactly how I feel Gus.As soon as I found out what had happened on Monday I pm'd ghostie to book 2 seats rather than take the train to show my support to the BC.

I am now boycotting the Muirton suite until this is resolved.I am flabbergasted at a time when the SJFC is losing supporters that they would undermine another supporters club that has been not only supporting them, but also the Muirton suite financially.

Our way or no way approach from the club again.Disgraceful

As a Saints fan of some 47 year's some of the time has been bad and some good!I have backed my club where necessary , and have indeed been very vocal in the defence of the currant manager, much to the disgust of some ,and have even been accused of being a sycophant and in defence of everything the Cub does, despite falling out with the Former Chairman in my resistance to the closure of the former Supporters Club in the Dunkeld Road ,and vigorously demanding the removal of at least two managers in my time. Also very vocal when Saints sacked my favourite manager at the time in Alex Totten

!For the last year i have been a member of The Barossa Saints Supporters Club and was indeed Chair and Home bus convener until the AGM.Now in that year people have worked very hard to get Fund Raising(For Saints, some £5000 ) Plus Home and Away buses to most games.

It therefore saddens me to see financial Support coming from St.JohnstoneF.C to the recently

reformed 208/Muirton Suite bus, i don't blame any of the people who run the buses, i blame Saints! If you are going to Subsidise one bus surely you have to do them all!

It should not be one supporters bus against another but this is how things are developing, since the start of the Barossa bus, we have always worked in tandem with other supporters buses

The subsidised bus idea has not been thought through thoroughly by the club and is already breaking up a hard working Committee, with one resignation over this fiasco ,and a house of cards on the Agenda! To make matters worse the resignation comes from the very guy who ran the bus!

Did the board not have the foresight to reasilse that they were favouring a small section of the support over the rest.

By all means keep trying new initiatives to encourage support, but I'm afraid this idea makes no sense, and i would plead that it is revisited before its to late.

I am sure Steve Brown would not want this to affect relationships between fellow supporters Clubs ,and in fact some very good friends in this ill thought idea

Well said Gav, that is pretty much how everyone felt on Thursday at the meeting.

I am delighted that some saints fans are able to get a bus to away games for a fiver but the club should be doing it for other travel clubs that are putting money into saints. The j208 are putting in money by using the Muirton Suite as a base we are putting in @10 k per year from our fund riasing. Why should one get a subsidy and the other one get he haw and a load of bull.

I spoke to Bev yesterday, the Muirton Suite bus is booked by saints and not the J208. It appears that it is the Muirton Suite bus that is running for a fiver provided there are at least 30 people on it.

Bev said the MS bus has it's own cost centre at saints.

WAP Barossa St are still writing to Steve Brown about this. If saints are going to subsidise a bus going from the MS then they should also be able to subsidise a bus from Barossa St in view of the guaranteed income tha BS is raising for saints.

Once we have had a reply from saints we will let everyone know what they.

John, I hope the j208 continue to run buses for many years to come.

Our issue is with saints and it is quite simple. Why should WAP Barossa St put money into saints at the same time as Saints are subsidising buses from the MS.

WAP BS is now well established and we will continue to run buses to home and away games as one of our aims is to get as many fans as we can to the games.

There is also a strong desire to continue to raise money for saints. I dont think saints have thought this issue through and it is pretty much an own goal situation.

Once we hear back from Steve Brown we will take it from there. In the meantime its business as usual until we have heard from saints and the committee has met and agreed a way forward.

Ghostie has put a load of effort into making the away bus a success and we would love to see him back at the helm.

Strange things I'm hearing from people who phoned McDiarmid to book a seat on the away bus.

When they asked how much the bus would cost, they were told by the person answering the call, that they did not know.

Very odd indeed if you ask me !

Is that because they won't know if it's a fiver or not before they know they have 30 folk on the bus?
