The Inspiration
I'm sure I'm not alone in not having a clue what this means?!  Every internet access point has it's own "address".. the IP (Internet Protocol) address which identifies who and where you are.  Example.. The BBC has the rights to show highlights of SPL games to UK viewers only. If you try to watch from abroad the BBC website will recognise that you are not viewing from the UK due to your IP address. The website above will only be available to viewers in Norway as it has rights to show the game to Norwegian viewers only. Hence the term geo-locked, locked to users in one geographical region.  An IP scrambler, or proxy, is a secondary access point. When you connect to a proxy server you adopt the IP of the proxy server. In our case we would want to find a proxy server with a Norwegian IP address. Once we have done this, we can access the geo-locked content as we are tricking the website into thinking we are in Norway.  It's sort of like trying to get in to the opposing end at a football match. The stewards won't let you in with your own team's colours, so you wear the colours of the team you are playing to gain access  ETA.. think of it as you sitting at your computer in Perth. By searching online and finding a suitable proxy server, you are basically piggy-backing on to an internet connection in Norway. When you go to watch the stream of the game, you are using the Norwegian connection to get the website for us then send the stream to Perth.. the website in question is none the wiser (usually!) ex-montrosesaintee
Thanks for that. Â How do you find a reliable (free) proxy server? Â I did a search and found a few, but none worked.
The Inspiration
proxynova.com I think usually gives you a list or proxies and their locations. Â Can't access just now as I am using the wifi in library. Ironically, if I had access to a proxy server just now I could use it to get around the P&KCouncil internet restrictions! ex-montrosesaintee and jhq
ex-montrosesaintee
Cheers - that was the one I tried. Â It might be my network in the office that is blocking a connection, bloody fascists. Â I'll try at home. Â Cheers for the info.
