Getting serious deja vu while reading through this thread. Must have been around about this time last year that the WAP doom-mongers were telling us all that Tommy needs to pick youngsters for the rest of the season and coming out with the timeless "we'll never catch Hamilton". And then we went and qualified for Europe. Again.
Here's an idea: how about we support the manager in continuing to pick his strongest team for the rest of the season, and we'll see what happens?
Seriously, we're one point off fourth place with six games left to play, and you're calling the season a write-off. Do you understand how silly that sounds? Thank God the players and manager haven't approached the last few fantastic years with the miserable, chuck-in-the-towel attitude of some on here. We'd probably be where Hibs or St Mirren or one of those other loser clubs are right now.

I remember the stick Lomas took on here for implying Europe would be a hassle. Now it sounds like a load of Saints fans are parroting him.
We can't simply choose to take a year off from Europe to "rebuild" or whatever other bizarre reasoning is being applied to this crazy train of thought. We're not Man Utd. Qualifying for Europe is a huge achievement and honour for Saints and it's what we should be striving for all year, every year. I hope we play in Europe for not just a fifth summer in a row, but also a sixth and a seventh and an eighth. It's about prestige for the club, and attracting the best players, and being involved in big matches and testing ourselves against different opposition. And call me trivial but it's also a lot of fun. To suggest that we don't want it, or that we should try not to get it, or that not qualifying will somehow make us better next season, is all ridiculous.
Miss out this time and it could be a long, long time before we get there again. As a club we absolutely must take these opportunities when we can get them, or what's the point in any of it?

Macca is a ****ing hero. I won't hear a bad word said about him. A Saints legend. Hes a ****ing brilliant footballer too. Probably the most intelligent player in the team.

His reported actions during half time in the semi final against Aberdeen is enough to make him a legend without adding any actual playing moments.

A servant right throughout our best ever period, an absolute psycho who exudes passion, goalscorer in Luzern in front of 1000 Saints fans in the scorching sun and scorer of one of the most important goals in our history. The older generation seem to look back on yesteryear with much greater fondness than the here and now, but this is our golden generation, these players will go down in history. In 50 years fans will talk about Steven Anderson, Steven Maclean and Stevie May. They are legends and will go down as such. There's nothing cheap about how they've managed to reach 'celebrity status.'
