#34 - 12/03/11 - Saints 2-2 Brechin City - Scottish Cup

agree with the vast majority of people's opinions on the game.

Said to the boy next to me at half time would take a replay at that point and thats what both teams deserved.

Still not sure why gartland gets a game, would have put casino in there today.

Heard del after the game say we have been looking at McAllister....

Proper football, standing on the terrace as it should be, I'd pay extra to watch it that way every week!

Well done Saints taking it back to Perth (lets be fair at the best of times Saints are of the radar for the press / media and they would have loved to see Brechin take this one) and Brechin deserve another bite at it too for all their efforts in a decent cup game and also for their efforts to make sure it went ahead in the first place.

Not going to have a go at any off the players as the pitch really dictated and it was annoying to watch some of us having a go at players as if we were playing on a bowling green and the pitch didnt matter?

(I do reckon Del made a mistake bringing on Reynolds why not May with goals behind him?) - I think he thought we had the game won and he could introduce a young lad for experience yet he was probably the last one that should have come on in a tough old fashioned cracker of a game. They'll both learn from that one and hopefully we get away with it.)

Well done Saints.

who was the old boy that jumped into the Brechin end and promptly got heaved out before the game even started.

we were there he told stewards etc he was in the wrong end. they wouldn't let him cross so he vaulted the barrier. A WPC tried to get across to tell the stewards but by the time the brechin side steward got his keys out it was too late. better was the space cadet who seemed to chucked out but minutes later you heard him and saw his hands waving about.

As for the game brechin played on the pitch and we mostly couldn't.

How the referee gave the penalty when he dived outside the box with our defender pulling his legs out the challenge. Scrabble you are a disgrace!

Today must have been a nightmare for the ref. Firstly whether under their current guidance it should go then secondly having to ref it with tackles flying in and conditions dictating.

Fair play to the linesman on the hedge side who took part in a fair bit of banter in good spirit and actually chatted back. Even told how many minutes to go when asked.

Pudding of a pitch which made it a great leveller as did the size and the closeness of spectators but I thought they adapted better to the conditions than us in the first half. Inspired substitution at half time by Del brought us into it and then it should have been sewn up Some amazing misses and they could (not should) have sneeked it in the end. Worth coming up for and thanks to AncientSaint for buying our tickets. Was surrounded by clueless moaners though who thought they could have done better!

The team will be set up to stop them scoring and using strong runners up top. Tight pitch.

May not be pretty, doesn't have to be. Were there to win

Just takin care of business

I said this on page one of the thread as i kinda guessed it would be like the inverness caledonian game and in some ways our quater final against morton at cappilow. For those of us who were going then knew what type of game this would be. Not pretty, mud bath of a pitch. Chances for both teams.

Both the games stated were 2-2 draws away from home with saints taking it in the reply.

Thats what cup football is all about.

Got no complaints about yesterday, other than being soaked through, but thats why we enjoy lower league grounds.

Won't make the reply due to work. Good luck to the lads in the reply. See it out.

Hope Reynolds will not be too knocked after missing that chance. Cracking highlights. As someone mentioned earlier looks a bit like the game against Caley back in the 90s. I would take the three nil replay score as well :)

Saw him on the train back to Glasgow and wished him well. Think he tried to make sure the keeper never got near it, and maybe with hindsight, he should have kept it down, hit the target and hoped. If the keeper had spilled it there was back up. But hindsight is easy, snatched chances in the mud with a baying crowd less so....

Good day out with the kids at an 'old school' ground - saints dug in and kept themselves in the cup - fair play to brechin - it was their cup final.

Pity about the so called supporters in the stand who moaned the whole way through the game. Take it none of them have ever played the game on a treacle pitch.

Really enjoyed the game yesterday, was like being beamed back to the early 80`s. Entertainment wise that was about as good a game as we`ve been involved in all season. The conditions were a total leveller and there were always going to be mistakes creating chances for both teams. I thought when we went ahead we were home and dry but then we seemed to think that job was done and Brechin deserved there equaliser, but still should have sneaked it at the end.

Great game, great day, canny wait for the replay.

It's interesting to read posters saying banana skin avoided..... I don't believe you beat them yesterday did you? Remember it's still a cup tie and with the boy McAllister for them anything could happen.

I wouldn't be so over confident.

i think what they mean is Brechin played well and if they had found a winner we couldn't have many compliants. Can they do it in perth we'll see but yesterday banana skin avoided

Apart from being frozen solid I really enjoyed yesterday. Thought the penalty was soft & we didn't get much from the ref. Enjoyed both our goals, Sammy put in a good shift & when he went off we did lose our shape. Danny is starting to settle in, great power in his header.

Only down points..the moaners  in the stand including the guy behind me who shouted "Even I could put that in.." when Reynolds missed.

Reynolds is a young player, he is still learning & at least he was in the right place; perhaps it would be an idea:idea: if people encouraged him rather than slate him off when it was one of his rare starts. Well done Soulful for speaking to him on the train & wishing him well.

We are still in the cup with a good shout so lets regroup, get behind Del & the boys. The hard work will come in the next match. And at least we scored 2 goals!!:D

Oh & a big thank you to theNo 30 bus driver who put foot to the floor & got us back to Montrose in time to catch the train back to Dundee.

Bring on Tues, I'll be there supporting Saints. COYS!!

Given the dodginess of their penalty and some of the chances we had it could easily have ended up 4 or 5-1.

Fair play to Brechin though, we didn't put the game to bed and they battled to the end. A professional 2-0 win in the replay will do me just fine.

I arrived fairly late and ended up between the 2 stands, right behind that massive floodlightless pillar. Think I managed to see a maximum of about 40% of the game and all I saw of our goals was the net rippling. Still about 100 times better than McDiarmid though! First time I've felt like I was at a proper football game since the early 90's.
