Says in the Courier that he was put on a drip and given Morphine. Sounds pretty worrying for the boy as Morphine is not usually administered for something minor or a response to some short term illness.

DuncM does the story sound plausible to you? It appears to be a re-occurrance of a previous illness, he attends training on Thursday morning, goes to hospital that day, stays in overnight and it some point has morphone administered; yet by Friday hes ready to go on a week long physical training course?

Does this sound like an illness which can be controlled/treated by pharamaceuticals?

Hopefully for Jacko its not something serious like Crohn's disease. Whatever it is they seem more confident about it anyway.

Thats just what it might be, but Crohn's is managed much better these days. Still not too pleasant for a young guy with some promise trying to make his way in the game.

Gaffer says:

"The medical advice we had was that Jacko would be fine to come with us, but on Sunday evening he began feeling ill once more so we’ve left him behind."

You've gotta be concerned about the treatment Jacko is receiving. No mention of any treatment in any of the reports. Hopefully Hewitt can get him to a specialist as a matter of great urgency. This young lad needs his health.

Sounds like it could either be Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis. Either way, both would make being a proffesional sportsman a bit difficult as both illnesses cause chronic fatigue.

Depends on the severity. Also, there are many ways in which these can be controlled. It is entirely possible his illness is diet or allergy related also.

This is pure speculation though - I'm sure the Docs will figure it out and Jacko will be back banging in the goals next season.

you'd think if he was passing blood or anything he'd have reported it pretty quickly. I don't know anyone with Chrohn's but i know a few folk with Ulcerative Colitis and they both suffer badly when it flares up. Unfortunately there's no cure for Colitis although both can be controlled to some extent through diet and medication etc.

Hopefully its neither of the above but the fact it has been going on for so long makes me think it might be.

Perhaps he has Coeliacs disease - in intolerance of gluten/wheat. Given that he said he ate nothing but pasta for months (and no doubt still eats a lot of the stuff) - that would certainly flare up his stomach.

I'm a ceoliac - or 'silly-yak' as it frequently refered to - and the problem is that there are about 20 symptoms of which a sufferer only has about 5, so often hard to diagnose and only a biopsy proves it conclusively. Familar symptoms are bloating, stomach cramps, listlessness and in my case recurring conjunctivitis and knee pains. the impact is usually that the intestines fail to work properly and key vitamins are not absorbed leading to numerous seemingly unrelated problems. Six month of gluten and my intestines cleared up. He can still eat pasta but has to be corn and not wheat-based. Suspect Crohns is more likely tho.

Big problem is no beer or whisky so for those of you going to N Ireland I'll have a cider and a brandy please.
