beefcake
Did someone forget to tell the gaffer that grainger is not a left winger, Ando is best at centre half and Maybury is right sided. Handicapped from the start with a crazy line up. I would go with da team above tho!

101 Saint
No Value from the start, lets hope on saturday we get the right value team! He doesn't give us good service, value, team work or energy. Waste of time and money. Keeps giving presents away, look at the first three goals. Broon
Proud of the team after that. Granted the formation didn't work but Del is young and will learn from it. It was crazy upsetting a solid back line but he fixed it 2nd half.A few players restored my faith in them tonight. MURRAY DAVIDSON stood up when it mattered and ran the show. Probably his best game of the season. Fantastic.

Probably his best game of the season. Fantastic. People have been saying this for over three years now, it's been said so much it's almost lost its meaning. He's almost 40, old enough to realise that in order to get the best out of players it's a good idea to play them in the right bloody position! I'm half his age and know that much! templeofsaints
Poor defending to start with and didn't agree with Maybury @ left-back. But the fight and determination shown by the players made for a cracking cup-tie and the likes of Parkin, Davidson, Millar and Grainger showed what they were capable of - two good goals from us and a bit more clinical finishing (and a referee that wasn't scared of offending Nelly the Letter Writer) and we'd be in the semis. As it is we have nothing to fear from them on Saturday.
Calypso Kid
I thought Grainger's inclusion in midfield was spot on.
templeofsaints
I thought Grainger's inclusion in midfield was spot on. I think it weakened us - I'd have put Danny at left-back and Maybury on the right of midfield with Millar and Muzz in the middle. Liam wasn't as effective playing through the middle as when he was moved to the left.

ryangordon86
My views on last nights game, not read anyone elses but I fear I won't be alone! Credit to the boys on a valiant effort but c'mon Del, surely if we learned anything from the 4-6-0 Scotland game, it's stick to what you know. I couldn't make the game but it looked to me as if Danny was playing as a defensive left mid, Ando RB and Casino was at LB. Maybury can be used as a makeshift LB, but he doesnt look overly comfortbale and will struggle against a decent winger, much the same as Craig. We've all spoken on here at great length with regards to Ando being used as a full back and I doubt anyone would argue, it's simply not his best position. Last night was made for a player like JMW, his pace would have caused havoc in the Celtic defence and with the pitch being so wet, slips and fouls would be ineveitable. I was crying out for the JMW / Ando sub after 20 mins and that's no slight on Ando, I merely wanted the players in comfortable roles. Hopefully Del learns a lesson and gets the starting 11 right on Sat. Great comeback by the boys and over the piece, we probably deserved something last night. PS - Paul Hartley is a boring chunt, how can anyone think him being on tv is a good idea?
Bruno Strasser
Credit to the team for coming back so strongly - surely we can't defend as poorly as that again on Saturday ? Grainger was my MOM and Davidson had his best game for us for a long time.
broonsaint
del is young and will learn? so the fact that sir alex ferguson with john oshea and evra against stoke on sunday, walter smith with broadbean against man u and whitaker against valencia, houllier with beye last night and wenger with eboue last night all used the very same tactic. thats without telling you the times that jose, wee gordan, martin oneil and even leven for scotland have done the same but dont let that get in the way of your wee i know better moment, time you guys let your tactical knowhow have a break for while.the reason that danny was played there is because he does not stop crosses in to the box enough there was nothing wrong with the tactics last night it was 3 errors that cost us plain and simple, well done and unlucky saints cut out the errors and they are there for the taking on saturday.101 you are now not even worth a laugh what you said about the manager is disgusting, why you are allowed a platform to spill your bile is beyond me time for mods to stand up and be counted i think? Saline Saint
Don't think its been mentioned but did any one else notice the snide wee kick Anderson had at Samars last night. He did it when Samaras was on the deck and all the attention was else where he couldn't have connected as Samaras didn't react.Watched it on telly when I got in and you see nothing yet it was clear from the East stand.Had it been seen by the officials he would have been off at a time we were getting torn apart.Disappointed in Anderson thought he had more about him than that. garydavidson
Can anyone clarify what the formation was? The BBC displayed it as three at the back with wing backs on the right and left with three in the middle and two up top. I never had a chance to figure it out as my palm was covering my face for the first 13 minutes.

You having a pop at me there? If the tactics were so good why did Del see fit to change them? Why did we play so much better after going to a flat back 4? Del even admitted in his interview he screwed up the line-up (though not directly). The fact you name all these high class managers and high class players (Broadfoot aside) means nothing. Better players cope with being played in different positions and that is a fact. Our players were all at sea until they got back into familiar positions. Celtics first goal came from our 'left back' trying to let the ball cross him to clear with his right foot and scuffing it and the third goal from the very same player being caught far to far up the pitch without trying to play offside. Maybury has been solid until last night and he was solid in the second half. No conicidence for me.
MCFrancis
Looking back we were terribly unlucky not to take something from the game. The parkin chance just before half-time, the parkin shot where he had time for a touch and the JWM shot all could have turned the game, equally so could Gary Hoopers 2 runs through on our goal and Ledleys onside goal which was given off. Thrilling game all things considered. Fantastic show by the lads. Sickening not too get something but we know what thats like as Saints fans.
