Thanks guys ....and special thanks to Steve McQ for his time and effort in making it possible for Wapers to have a bit of fun and competition. Sorry Denzil, I reckon I just got lucky over the past few weeks!
Will dedicate my victory to Panama Saint who made WAP so entertaining with his contributions and antics. Despite him being an avid Saintee for all those years he was consistently awful with his predictions and generally just gave up...so real nice to see he completed the season...well done to The Inspration.
Looking forward to another battle of Wapers next season and hopefully to improved performances at McD Park that will brighten up some of our depressed posters !!

Not having that.  Andy may not have been the most graceful, but he knocked his pan in, made assists and scored goals.  Unconventional but effective, and a Saints legend.  Doubt Coulson will be remembered with much fondness in 35 years time.

    Hi everyone.
Found out the news about my dad on Friday. It was very sudden but as none of his family were in Panama at the time details are few and far between at the minute. Expecting a call from the Embassy in the next couple of days and will know more then.
He was a great Dad and loved nothing more than telling me on a Saturday morning who he’d been winding up on WAP over the last few days and who he was beating in the predictor!
Being away from Perth for many years meant this place gave him an outlet for all things St Johnstone and enabled him to have debates and conversations, which many of us get in the pub on a Saturday afternoon, with all of you.
Thanks to anyone who berated him, nibbled at his bait or rised to him any time he put up a nonsense post as he thrived on it and, while he often came across as abrasive on here, it was always in jest with a tongue firmly in cheek and his way of still being involved with saints from a far.
My brother Saul and I (Joss) would like to pass on our thanks to everyone for their kind words and for humouring him over the past few years

I think the fact that the event was sold out even prior to it being announced is where the problem stems from. I'm certain there would've been lots people interested in going to an event with the off the ball presenters - they're big names in the context of Scottish football -but didn't know about it because they didn't know the right people. The fact you could have had educated guesses at a lot of the attendees doesn't help the jolly for pals perception either. How are people supposed to ask about an event if only the pals of those on the committee or who are in the business club or who attend hospitality (Which I'm assuming happened as that's where a lot of the business club will be on match days) are the only ones actually being told about it?
The perception here is similar to the secret seven from a few years ago. I'm sure it's not meant, but I think it's something that needs to be worked on as it clearly does make a lot of supporters feel alienated.

Club confirm that Alan Mannus leaving Saints at end of season to go back to Ireland. He has been a fantastic player for us and was another of our cup heroes and played his part in our European adventures. He is a nice guy and was such a good mentor for Zander and the younger goalies. Great role model for young players. I will really miss him but so glad he played for Saints and did such a good job. Wish you well Alan as you return home.

This is a move that suits both us and the player. It pushes us to take the step forward of changing our forward line and it gives MacLean a higher pay day in his last season(s).
I'm genuinely surprised Hearts are interested as on the whole, he's nowhere near the player that he used to be. Far too many games where's he's offered very little. Chris Kane looks ready to take up that role, but with the added energy his youth brings.
MacLean has been a fantastic servant for us and one that will always be remembered forgiving 100% in every game. His contribution to our latest success has been huge. It just feels like the right time for him to move on and us to reshape our attack.

Why has this been moved to chit chat surely if we are to be seen as an inclusive club this deserves to stay in Saints Chat. Anyone not interested can simply ignore the thread.

Valid points on both sides and I certainly sympathise with those calling for change, but I think Tommy has earned the right to turn things around this season and, no matter where we end up, the opportunity to rectify things in the summer.

That doesn't make what is happening now any easier to watch or the difficulties we've faced this season anywhere near acceptable, but this season has been in the post for a while now. There's only so long you can rely on players in their 30s to maintain their standards. We saw Mackay decline first, then Wright and we've been able to source adequate (not as good, but decent enough) replacements. I'd argue that this season looks like one too far for Foster (although he's picked up a bit since the break), Anderson, Millar ( that seems to be more induced by the manager's selection policy rather than an actual decline in his ability to compete at our level), Craig, Maclean and possibly Wotherspoon (form has been pretty awful for the best part of 18 months now) and Easton giving the injury problems he's faced this season. Most of those players have played well over 100 - I think most will be over 200 at the very least - and took us to 4th last season. There's no accounting for them all suddenly looking out of their depth and there would've been an outcry if any of those players had left last summer.
As I've mentioned before, we've got 14 or 15 players out of contract this summer. I'm not advocating that we release all of them, but there is plenty of scope for a clear out and start again policy. Most of the players contracted beyond this summer are young (Craig and Foster the only ones over 30) and plenty of them have come through our own academy. The chairman has to give Tommy funds to bring in players though. I appreciate that the club will get less from prize money this year and may have to dip into reserves to just retain the budget, but he can't go slashing the budget like under Lomas, and indeed the first season Wright was here.
I think the next few months are a big test for both manager and chairman. The manager can't go again next season with all the old heads in the squad as many have proven not to be up to the required standard this season. If Tommy does take the leap of faith and releases a big number of players (Paton's release shows Tommy can make big decisions - he'd played the third most number of minutes in our squad to the point he was released) then he has to bring the right types in. Alston and Scougall looked good on paper. Whilst neither has hit the heights we hoped they would, that's the kind of player we should be looking at again IMO.

Would it kill us to add some pace to the squad too? Even when we've been good, we always seem to be the slowest, most ponderous team in the league.

We could have the best infrastructure in the Championship though....Lack of money available for decent players and a lack of willingness to play the young team..some of the older players are just becoming an embarrassment and look like they have lost the will to fight for the club..lets get some passion back here before its too late

Hard not to agree with this. I know this argument has been done to death but it still rankles me that if you go back to the summer of 2014 we did nothing to build on the momentum, excitement and goodwill generated by the Cup win. We let go of key players (Cregg, Hasselbaink) who the manager apparently thought he'd be able to replace, then ended up not being able to sign anyone - and we had all that nonsense with claiming we were trying to sign David Goodwillie only to go back on it and say he was never a target. Looking back, I'd say that was the start of the increasingly regular public spats between TW and SB. On top of that, criminally, was the complete inability to target the potential new fans from the Cup final and the open-top bus parade and get season ticket info to them quickly.
I know the club's approach is to treat survival as the number one priority, but there have been big opportunities to kick on and grow the support and attract better players and right now it feels like those opportunities were allowed to simply slip away. In fact I'm not convinced that Steve Brown would even acknowledge that those opportunities existed - his attitude just seems so backward and old fashioned at times.
I remain confident we'll stay up this season, but after a season like this one attracting good players and attracting more supporters is only going to get harder.

I was enthusiastic whether we were winning or not to be fair. And if we end up back in the diddy league, I will still buy my season ticket and I will still go to games. I am well used to our team being pish. They have been pish for much more of my life than they have been great. My frustration at this time is , like many, I have seen the demise of one of our finest sides ever and have seen very little done to  address it. We have done  brilliantly, but this season we seem to be returning to where we should be based on our financial muscle ( or lack off)  Do not be  mistaken into thinking that just because I am not happy with the side at the moment that my support of St.Johnstone is waining.. I will ALWAYS support the club. Those currently involved with the club , like it always has been, are only passing through.  They are never guaranteed my unconditional support. They have to earn it on a seasonal basis. I am very greatful for what has  happened in the past but it's all about the now and also the future.  I refuse to say everything is dandy if I think it is not. I am a realist. It is my opinion.. Some  people accept that, some cannot. It's a forum, it's to be expected.. My enthusiasm for WAP is almost dead though, and if it was not for the prediction league, i think I would not visit the site. Why is that?? well  as we grow older, we find other things to do, our patience with bollocks  lessens and time becomes a little more precious..    I will always be a Saintee whether it's in the top league or the  bottom league.  ;-)
