DBay Saint
So Beattie uses Saints to get fit without contributing to the clubs challenge in the league and cups. Having picked up wages for nothing, he is looking for a bigger money move at the best time when clubs are looking to strengthen for a promotion run or a relegation fight. Just like Hart last season, wasted money at a time when every penny counts. Steve B has supported SL with the financial backing which SL has squandered. Center Half
seems notts county were wanting to sign him at the start of the season? I always thought it was a quick move to sign for us when in the morning he turned down or he was turned down by the Gers. so mabey we are being compensated on getting him fit for SL old buddy Keith Curle? According to Beattie he is not away and remains a St Johnstone player. it beggers belief some of the comments from folk on here. He was offered a contract at Ibrox turned it down and signed for us, Now unless he has ESP then there is no way he knew that he was going to be suffering from chickenpox within a month of signing for us, He then had an injury and has now come back and lost weight. He is available for selection. Having seen him training ona number of occassions over the past four weeks he is not shirking or holding back and I know for a fact he has been looking to see what more he needs to do Has it not dawned on people that it is possibly a club decision not to play him and possible a club decision to try and off load him. low basic wage with high appearance money perhaps. All possibilities but like you I don;t know and can only speculate.
The Juggernaut
It may not mean much to some but in the debate of being prolific..... Beattie 0.19 goals per game Tade. 0.22 gpg MacLean 0.28 gpg Vine. 0.18 gpg Career in league only

The Juggernaut
With better players alongside to equal that out? Also played for Celtic where he has an increased amount of chances so can argue it should be better? Al C
That's pretty much my thoughts Ed. We've been struggling in front of goal, we have a proven goalscorer in the stands, what is the issue? It is massively frustrating. If he played a couple of games and looked nowhere near the pace or unlikely to score then fair enough, but he's never had a chance. Definition of proven? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craig_Beattie Given this is wikipedia accept there may be inaccuracies; however on those figures he has scored 40 goals since his debut ten years ago. None of our strikers have been anywhere near prolific in the last five years. They all offer different types of game though. This whole saga with Beattie is threatening to turn into a big disappointment and waste of time/money. But how many folk where actually disappointed on the day he signed? Were you? I was surprised when he signed for us. Not disappointed necessarily but certainly not as overly excited as everyone else seemed to be due to his injury record and always thought he was overated as ex Old Firm players tend to be. He's flitted between clubs throughout his career much like Mark Burchill. Hearts fans love him as he scored the winning penalty against Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi final; that's fair enough, Daniel McBreen would have been a Saints legend had we held on against Rangers in 2008. Would not have made him any better a footballer though.

I was pleased by his signing as it would have meant having a decent plan B and plan C for up front during matches. Its a real shame that it hasn't worked out. emptyheed
Surely the Under 21 rule has hampered his chances big time aswell? I'd be a bit gutted/annoyed to see him go now without getting a proper look at him but if it means getting Brittain and/or a youngster on loan now then so be it

So if any of them were bagging that many goals they would of been picked up by a "bigger club" for example clubs in the championship down south particularly if they were going for a free transfers like all of them were. Saints have still done a good job picking them up though
Al C
I agree - somebody said we had a proven striker sitting in the stand so was responding to that.

Jiangsu Sainty
On trial with Notts County. Something has clearly happened behind the scenes Hasn't he just been on trial with them, rather than currently. Tommy Wright's quotes on it make a lot of sense, but are also what the management team should be saying in any scenario, so can't read too much into their veracity. Assistant Manager Tommy Wright said: “The plan was for Craig to do a lot of work on his own during this break but we got an enquiry from Notts County manager Keith Curle who is looking for a striker and we reckoned that Craig was as well training with another team as on his own. He has been working hard recently and we will just need to wait and see if he can still be an asset to us.” The same article on the OS also described CB as 'failing to make an impact', which is fair enough, but no mention of him not being given a chance to do so.
