R.B.B:- Adz
Well if it's Levein's ego that is getting in the way he should be put in his place pronto. You don't have to like or get on with someone to work with them. Just be professional. Correct! The problem is now maginfied by the fact that Fletcher is up there with the highest stock in European Football. Worringly, the longer the situation rolls on, the harder and harder it become for either to "give in". The more goals Fletcher scores in the Premiership, the more he adopts the come and get me attitude. The more goals Fletcher scores in the Premiership and the lessening of the likelihood of Scotland qualifying, the more it makes Levein look desperate and will hurt his ego. We're damned if we do and damed if we dont! Steven Fletcher is currently equal with or scored more Premiership goals this season (for BOTTOM HALF side Sunderland) than: Luis Suarez(Man City) £23 Million Robin Van Persie(Man Utd) £24 Million Peter Crouch(Stoke) £47 Million(total transfers) Edin Dzeko(Man City) £27 Million Gervinho(Arsenal) £11 Million Fernando Torres(Chelsea) £90 Million(total transfers) Carlos Tevez(Man City) £72 Million (total transfers) Wayne Rooney(Man Utd) £27 Million Edited October 1, 2012 by R.B.B:- Adz
Smarmy Arab
I don't know the detail of what happened, between these two, but I suspect it is more than the media know! The interesting thing listening to the media coverage is how only journalists and texters demand Fletcher's selection. The pundits who played the game and have managed professional teams all seem to argue the Levein cannot back down on this or he is finished in the dressing room. Craig Paterson, Allan Preston, Willie Millar all repeat the same line over and over. That suggests to there is more to this than a petulant huff by either. Tom English, Jabba, Chick, Richard Gordon et al and the twiteratti seem to be demanding something different.(exactly the same divide on 'playing 2 up front' those who 'know', resist the temptation to appease fans and journalists!) Das Rave
Apparently he's in the squad for Wales and Belgium
Bridgendboy
The only decision he could make, imagine if we had gone to Wales without Fletcher and failed to score the abuse would be something to see.
SlickDT
Fletcher got in contact through a third party and then personally himself. He's made his apologies and is now available. Hopefully we can move on now and get some points on board!
ryangordon86
good, lets put this to bed now
SingaporeSaint
Excellent news for the national team. Let's just forget what happened and move on. Edited October 2, 2012 by SingaporeSaint
nips
Fletcher got in contact through a third party and then personally himself. He's made his apologies and is now available. Hopefully we can move on now and get some points on board! That's not what Avril said in his interview. A third party made Avril aware Fletcher wanted back so Levein picked up the phone after receiving a text from someone confirming this and the talked it through. No apologies were made, which is disappointing but the important thing is he's back in the squad.

john1962
I have been critical of Levein but credit where its due, he has behaved like an adult here and done the right thing. Windross180, HOODLUM65, stevensan and 1 other

Barty1884
So, no apology and a simple phone call from Avril (admittedly with some input from an 'unknown third party') was all that was needed to put this all to bed....sounds like something somebody on this forum said a couple of weeks ago
Havana Saint
Delighted he is back. Our national coach says this was a "no brainer". I argue it was a "no brainer" prior to commencing this section. With 20% of the section already played, let us hope that it is not too late.....................for all our sake. henryhallsdanceband
And great to see Darren Fletcher playing for Man Utd last night. I'm not a great fan of Man U but definitely a DF fan. Barty1884

blueheaven
Lots of pressure on this guy's shoulders now. It's far easier to seem like a saviour when you're not actually playing. nips, Barty1884 and ryangordon86
Barty1884
Lots of pressure on this guy's shoulders now. It's far easier to seem like a saviour when you're not actually playing. Very true, although with the (potential) quality behind him then I can't see how it would be possible for chances not to be created, although this is Scotland after all and SF could wind up up top all alone with no service all too easily. Windross180
if fletcher dosnt score but scotland get points you'll be happy,if fletcher dosnt score and scotland dont get points everybody will say we we brought back the best striker and we didnt score so now what? truth is you know youve got to play fletcher cos he will score more goals than kenny miller! john1962
Couldnt score against Man City. If he cant score against them he should never be picked again. Craig Avril Levein was correct all the time.
