Ando Testimonial Match

It's bad enough reading too much into friendlies (I rarely go to them), but reading too much from a testomonial seems even stranger

Would our players really be up for it, especially as the senior ones will be looking towards Thursday. Okay, maybe a couple of the younger players should have seen it as an opportunity to perhaps impress, but that's about it.

Gilchrist was poor against York aswell, and like Kitchen was constantly being exposed. They look miles away from being near Premiership standard, same with most of the youngsters. Caddis, Easton, Brown and Kane are the only youngsters who look like they'll be any use at all, the others all look too far away

Its easy to forget how old the youngsters are, take them in relation to Andy Robertson. Gareth Rodger is older than him, Gilchrist is under a year younger than him and Kitchen is just over a year younger than him. Its not 16/17 year olds we're on about here, its 18/19/20 year olds.

Robertson has played 70 games for QP and Utd including a Scotland appearance so how you can judge a another young player after a couple of games baffles me.

The boys are obviously well thought of by TW and his team or they would not be here.

On another note, do you really think Pro managers and players care about fans who think they are Jose Mourinho on "Championship Manager"? The "I have the right to comment as I buy my season ticket" line is ok for discussion on how many hot dogs were sold etc but slating players and trying to tell the manager what players should be in the first 11, please!!.

Away and start a thread about hot dogs then  ......of course a forum like this is for people to discuss player selection, form, signings, performances etc etc.

Nobody here thinks that TW should get them on board as a consultant, but what you are saying shouldn't be discussed IS the whole point of a fans forum

In fact, unless you are a catering and marketing specialist, or are head of catering at McD (are you Mr Stephens?), then perhaps you shouldn't be discussing hot dog sales

I am more of a chicken curry pie man myself and their seemed to be plenty yesterday, so no need to complain about running out of football delicacies to the catering staff.

I don't mind open debate but FFS keep the young players out if it. It is bad enough trying to make a living in the game without getting slagged by your own fans,, the majority of which don't understand the commitment and sacrifice it takes to get to even an u20 level let alone first team.

I am all for discussion and free speech but things like this rile me.

So apologies Random and Edstar, that's my rant over.

I get your point, but the harsh reality is that if those said youngsters want to make it in the game, they will have to learn to accept that they will often be criticised, either rightly or wrongly, by the press, opposing fans AND their own fans. It is part and parcel of the profession

We are not talking about a coach standing screaming at 12-13 year olds here, destroying their confidence. Somebody has simply commented on the performance of a young man and gave an opinion on their ability.

I actually know Ally Gilchrist's dad and for that reason especially want him to do well. The fact that he was retained following a really harsh cut at the end of last season says something about how the club rate him, and as long as he keeps that in mind, then comments on here (if he even bothers to read WAP) shouldn't affect him one jot. If he had a bad game yesterday, he better than anyone will know it

Ed,

Absolutely spot on in your comments, it's just a pet hate of mine, especially stick from home fans.

If you are fortunate to play a number of first team games and get slated by fans because of a poor performance you deal with it, you are coached how to deal with it. However coming out stating a young player was "poor" in his first start does not go down well with me.

Enjoyed the debate Ed

Maybe it is my fault for not giving enough reason behind my statement. Some have said he is not a left back but I would expect the manager to pick either a left back or someone who is capable of playing there.

I didn't think Gilchrist had a good game at left back. One example was giving their winger too much time and space to put in a cross which Hearts scored from. Obviously the central defenders should deal with it once it is in the box but the winger should have a battle to put it in there and he never.

I never once abused him at the game and I never would.

I am also not a season ticket holder.

He is a centre half.....I think yesterday was just a case of putting players on the pitch. What really mattered was people turning up as a mark of respect to Ando, something that you and a good few others did

FFS this is a thread to celebrate Ando's 10 years of commitment to the club and as usual petty point scoring wins the day

Don't see that at all.

Some saying the younger players were pish, others saying give them a break.

Sometimes Phil, I wonder if you understand what a Fans Forum is actually for?

If you look at the post before mine you will see this topic being used for yet another attack at the club which is creeping into almost every topic at the moment.

There is a whole massive topic where the club is being ripped a new one, so there is no need to attempt to take every thread off on the same theme, so maybe it is yourself that doesn't quite understand what a Fans Forum is all about.

All I'm going to say is that this was Ando s testimonial and I had to look at the fffffkkkk jam tarts tweets for updates.

C'mon St Johnstone surely you can see your customer service is damn right pathetic

--------------------------------------------------------------

Someone on here involved in the testimonial committee can probably give a better explanation, but Saints could not be seen to be promoting the testimonial as a club event, something to do with tax believe it or not from what was said to me. I was told that another Premiership club had actually got in touch with Saints to say that when it was first publicised heavily on social media, that they should watch, as this club had done that and got told not to. That is why when you look at the twitter feed on the day, it said for updates, see the testimonial feed, which unfortunately had none. It is also the reason that both twitter and facebook pages linked to the Ando Testimonial pages/feed in the run up instead of putting it all on the Saints one.

Daft as it is a Saints player, but it had to be seen as being run by the committee and not the club. As has been said, typically, coverage of Saints is normally pretty good on twitter.
