blueheaven
John O'Neil is another one on the list of players who arguably played the best football of their careers at Saints, but got called up very quickly after departing for another club. We can all argue about Zander's strength and weaknesses, but if he was exactly the same keeper wearing a Celtic shirt every week instead of a Saints one, he'd be in the Scotland squad. There's no such thing as "international standard". This is just one of many reasons I can't be arsed with following Scotland any more and haven't watched any of their matches in years. Stumpy1949
We can all argue Zanders strengths and weaknesses but when we a have former goalkeeper and an international goalkeeper coach and now a manager I now who's opinion I will believe. andy rhodes fancy watch
Of course I worked it out I read it and realised that you were talking absolute bollocks. Andy never shook your hand, did he? Get over it instead of letting it eat you up. You know it makes sense.

Cagey
Zander only 6th in the Scotsman's list of the top 12 goalies in Scotland. Mannus is 10. Bain 5th.

Shibbydoo
Zander isnt a better keeper than Gordon, Marshall or McGregor - thats why he isnt in the squad. One day he might be the best of the rest but having lived through that with Alan Main im not too bothered. To say its some anti-Saints conspiracy is just total pish im afraid. Abernethy Saint
Great keeper, and great that we Saintees big him up. Scotland level yet? Probably not, but I think the Ginger Dwarf should stick him in a squad at some point to encourage the guy. Bear in mind Strachan isn't going to be the Scotland boss for much longer. Havana Saint
Agree with a lot of posts. Zander is ver good, but has a lot still to learn.
Main1
I don't think there would be the same push for Clark in the squad if he hadn't had Bain and Hamilton in some of the recent squads, he clearly isn't going to challenge the likes of Gordon or Marshall yet, but it looked for a time that strachan was indeed giving some of the young keepers a chance to be part of the squads, shame they two got it though and now Strachan seems to have gone back to the old vets R.B.B:- Adz
Guest ScottMann
I doubt anyone actually thinks Zander is ready to start for Scotland but he is for the 'young, promising keeper that can feature in squads without any real danger of playing or international training sessions to get him involved and check him out a bit more' role that the likes of Scott Fox and Scott Bain have had. Abernethy Saint
Agree entirely. But isn't it a bit desperate that the 4th/5th best team in the country is desperately celebrating because one of our guys might or might not be 3rd choice goalie for his country? Im old enough to remember games between the English League and the Scottish League. Would we really do any worse if we put out a Scottish League Team? They would work their arses off, and then go for a pint.
Abernethy Saint
I mean, can you imagine Ando playing for Scotland? Passion would just be the start. If he had a green or "Rangers" blue shirt on, he would have 50 caps.

ss75990
Zander overlooked for the Scotland squad again with Jack Hamilton making the cut even though he has had better performances, we finished higher in the league than them, and he has played more games recently than Hamilton who has been dropped from his starting place with Hearts. You wonder if they even take notice of saints performances and consider them or only look at old firm, Aberdeen and Edinburgh clubs TheYellowBox

I could understand if Hamilton was getting a game and Zander wasn't. What should be asked of the Scotland manager at the squad announcements is why x player is chosen over y. If it is because he thinks Hamilton is a better player, then anybody who has watched Scottish football this season would tell you he's not. As an aside, if he's calling up Mark Reynolds, Anderson is a far superior defender.
Edstar101
It's nothing short of shameful. There could be an argument whether Zander is ready for Scotland level yet, but if Strachan thinks Hamilton is then he's feckin deluded

garydavidson
I think I figured it out. Gordie must use soccerbase and it lists Zander as English. http://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=60440
