Summer transfers/contracts 2023

The left-back hasn’t kicked a ball for the Perth side in a year.

He needed Achilles tendon surgery on both legs in the summer and was close to a comeback a few months ago.

However, that was derailed by a groin problem and Courier Sport understands the former Dundee United man will now visit a specialist down south to get that seen to.

Another operation is on the cards but the good news is the expected recuperation time should enable the double-winner to be back in training for pre-season.

Booth has a year left on his contract.

David Wotherspoon, Chris Kane, Melker Hallberg and Jamie Murphy will all be free agents in the summer as it stands.

I'm sure we're not stupid enough to let Kane go after assisting him through injury or for that matter Spoony who has been so important to our success over the last ten years.

Would probably try to re sign Spoony if we go down but think he is done for Premiership.

Now that Davidson's gone is McPherson in charge of sourcing and signing players ?.

Whoever it is has a hard job due to the uncertainty on all fronts.

Can't hit the submit button for feckin ads ¡

I don't think Spoony's been the same player without Booth in the team. The two of them had a fantastic partnership down the left and it brought out the best in both of them.

If we go down I think those two could dominate at the lower level if both are fit, it’s hard to imagine Spoony was at the World Cup only a few months ago

The big problem I see is that so many players are still contracted until 2024. The squad is too big already, and the worry is that there are very few spaces for extra players unless we shift current players onwards (perhaps partly subsidising their wages to do so). This means, none in until we get some out which puts us behind in the market.

Yep. There's still a lot of issues. Hopefully Sinclair, Ballantyne and Kucheravyi can play a role and reduce SOME need but a lot needs done. Davidson has done a lot of damage.

Considine, Crawford, MOH, Carey, Murphy, Gallagher, Bair, Rudden, Muzz, MacPherson can go.

We can now sort out contracts . Thank **** we don't have the unceartenty of having to wait til after the play offs.

Macca has two games to impress or otherwise.

I take  Macca and Liam will be asked ,Who do we try to re sign and who do we want to negotiate to leave the club.

Suspect that’s where Gus MacPherson steps up.

Is there any chance a new manager (Macca or otherwise) could get certain contracted players actually playing consistant decent football or are they really that bad ?

I know there's a few not impressing, I'm just not sure if it's because of the CD affect. Big major pre season ahead which could be financially costly for Saints but team certainly needs culled/trimmed with a bit of added quality. Hopefully see some of the youngsters breaking through regularly too

Yes, that's for sure. I've seen them play as a pair and they definitely play well together.

Hallberg is a frustrating player , sometimes he seems indispensable and makes the team play and others he looks like he can't be arsed.

Wouldn't be unhappy if he was re signed but we do need to free off space and get the squad numbers down.

We need to leave the options for Phillips, McPherson , Ballantyne , Max and Ferguson.

I want Hallberg to stay. If we can get the best out of him he's our best attacking midfielder and arguably our best player full stop. We saw how effective he can be when he first arrived and I can't help but feel his slide since then was replicated by many of Davidson's signings who also started off strong but swiftly lost form after a few weeks of working under his leadership. This is why we really, really need a manager who can get players playing above themselves, instead of a guy who signs a multitude of players and then decides he doesn't fancy them any more.

Appreciate the need to create a pathway for younger players but I can't imagine there's going to be a shortage of departures once the season ends. We need youth in there but we also need some experience.

Can’t disagree tbh.

If played where he can flourish he can be a massive asset, especially in a world where playing one striker is the norm. Hallberg has the ability to be a match winner, and we don’t have many of those in Perth these days.

Sinclair

McGowan.   Gordon.   Considine.   Gallagher

Wright.   Phillips.   McPherson.   Max

Ballantyne/ Clark

May.

Basis of a team for next season plus Subs Wills ,Carey , Booth Bair , Ferguson ,  and a few youngsters.

Definitely need a right back , striker , hopefully Brown and Kane plus a centre back.

Maybe another striker and right back as well as Kane and Brown.

Plus thingy that's on loan to Morton, so we are starting with a squad of 20 odd so can't see too many signings.

I wonder if Alan Preston has a few lined up.

Where are you from and why St Johnstone. I’m not having a go just asking.
