Just seen on Brian Doyles Twitter that this was Steven Andersons 305th appearance for us, making him tied 5th in the all time records. And it was Chris Millars 232nd, and Mackays 218th

The record appearance list is now

  1. Alan Main - 361
  2. Drew Rutherford - 345
  3. Charlie McFadyen - 336
  4. Willie Coburn - 324
  5. Steven Anderson/ Bill McCarry - 305

So he's now only 56 games away, with at least 33 still to go this season. If he plays every one of these he'll end the season in 3rd on 338, only 23 behind Main

Do we have room at the club for another Legend...I thought Roddy was holding that position at the moment! Seriously...he is heading (pardon the pun) for all time appearance record and has added goals to his game....mind you if you check Wikipedia he has to score a few more to beat his total of 27 goals in 22 games during season 2004 - 2005!  Stevie May would've been proud of that!   :?

Cup final goal and heading for appearance record.

Legend.

to be fair he was played out of position

Not for 5 years he wasn't. Granted he was used as full back at times but he has definitely improved as a centre half.

You do expect a centre half to improve with age anyway but I don't think anyone could have predicted that Ando would have managed anything like this amount of appearances.

Dived in with an early challenge on Friday night that led to their goal but recovered well and didn't do too much more wrong. He also misses players Xmas weekend with a nasty gash on his leg following the dirty dee challenge that their fans were claiming a pen for.

Played the last 40 minutes with a cut on his ankle, so deep you could see his bone.. Some lad.

Notice nobody has mentioned that tonight will be his 361st appearance, equaling Alan Main's record for the club.  A big deal in these days of club hopping players on short contracts. Congratulations to Ando from me, instigator of the greatest roar a St Johnstone support has ever created.

About to become our record appearance holder (in one spell at the club as well), won the challenge cup, the 1st division, the Scottish Cup (scoring in the final and an important goal in the quarter final also), qualified for Europe 4 seasons in a row (possibly 5 depending how the end of the season goes) and a 3rd place finish in the league.

The term legend is made for a guy like Ando. He's so unassuming and down to earth that it's probably not sunk in what he's achieved at our club. He's been here from the start of our golden era. helping take us from our lowest ebb in about 30 years to where we've been over the past few seasons.

I know his form hasn't been as good this season, but he's been part of a fairly unsettled, new defence. If we can find the right partner for him, I'm absolutely certain he'll hit those heights again for us.

Congratulations on yet another accolade Ando. Huge respect.
