Not quite sure what the significance of a player being in favour is as there's infinite reasons that could cause one to be out of favour. It's one thing for him to come on a loan deal, but a totally different thing if you are a free agent? His agent will be calling the shots for him to hold out for the best deal. We are already outwith the transfer window. There's no rush to get things done. He's free to talk to who he likes and he certainly doesn't owe anything to us. Who will likely end up at a team round about our level for a few dollars more I'm not surprised anymore its just so depressing, and we wonder why no one turns up.
