He's probably basing it more on the fact theyve both been on loan to League One clubs and struggled to hold down a regular spot, tbh. So you reckon that a 21year old and a 22 year old who have had unsuccessful loan spells at lower league clubs are going to make the grade at premiership level do you ?? And also I can do without your patronising dig as well Cagey

You spend most of your game running, closing down and balls getting hoofed up to a target man. At Saints you have a better opportunity to show up as you have players on the same wavelength in technique and ability. Saints are battling every year to survive or get top 6, so when you analyse it it’s like Groundhog Day. Fans have too high expectations of the team and this is not helping getting the young players through.

They come into the team in an emergency, play well & are never seen again til the next emergency. Unfortunately that's our cutthroat league.. But the 2 players under discussion are a waste of 2 wages that could had been put to better use. Hope I am wrong.

Clark, Tanser, Shaughnessy, Kerr, Kane and May all regulars under the age of 23. Not all young players are good enough, no matter how much you play them,or how much you fawn over them. Fair point tbh, all would've made it if we'd dropped Millar/Muzz/O'Halloran and Wotherspoon for them, and said super nice things about them on here. rik2304
If someone is average in the development league and pish on loan at a lower level club then it's unlikely they will be magically better in the first team. They get their chance in the development league, in training and then on loans. The first team place should be earned.

And are you seriously suggesting that Greg Hurst at 21 having struggled in league 1 is a viable Premiership option.. Behave yourself
crieffsaintandy
Good points and all are valid, but in the cut throat nature of spfl not going to happen unless exceptional talent, so a few parent's maybe except the next Messi at under 16s not going to go straight into the first team, been there wore the hat b4 you get back to me

During the “he’s going to make” time late developers are dropped for these players and don’t get the chance. Saints are battling every year to survive or get top 6, so when you analyse it it’s like Groundhog Day. Fans have too high expectations of the team and this is not helping getting the young players through. Let's break down the points made, 1st paragraph, the lower leagues are full of released players with various technical ability, from various top level clubs including saints. They've all been good enough to be in their respective youth systems. 2nd paragraph, you run about and close opposition down at EVERY level, at least you should or you'll be released. Not every team hoofs balls up to big target men, some do though, even at the top level. 3rd paragraph, and so you should, they're all trying to win places in the first team ultimately. There will be circumstances where better players are released due to having enough players in respective positions but that's a choice for the coaching staff to make, that's what they're paid for, And to be honest if you're good enough, taking a step back can be the making of you, see Stephen Dobbie. Paragraph 4, Saints are striving to be the best they can be, you cannot slag the club for reaching Europe and cup finals and semis etc. If the youngsters are good enough and determined enough they will succeed, whether that's at Saints or elsewhere. Fans having unrealistic expectations isn't something new, you get that at the bottom level too. I'll add that in the last few years Saints have given probably more chances than what certain young players have deserved. They simply weren't good enough and have rightly been shipped out. The ones who have reached 1st team level at the moment? The only one who maybe deserves more of a chance is Liam Gordon, he hasn't put a single foot wrong in the games he's played. crieffsaintandy

Who’s fawning over them? They are being written off before a ball has been kicked. Btw if you think the young players are on enough to bring in a top player you can forget it. What, exactly, are you wanting done with them? A run of games in the first team purely because they're young?
TheYellowBox
Back on topic, any noise about potential signings? Not sure when the players and Tommy are back, but you’d assume he’d want players in as early as possible to gel with the rest of the squad. I see a few other teams are pretty active like Livi, who obviously will be playing catch up to a degree.

Transfer window has just opened today in Scotland, and English contracts don't expire until the end of the month. Problem will be Steve Brown being on holiday, as "nothing can be signed off without his personal say so"
