    Danny Swanson

When you watch his Utd highlight reel on the first page of this thread, and watch the highlights of the game at dens last season, you see how two-footed he is, how creative and how fast when running with the ball. Dont think we'll see it this weekend, but the prospect of watching a fit and in-form Swanson and young whippet Thomson on either wing, with Maclean and Zippy through the middle, is really exciting.. As has been mentioned a few times already!

  2. Folk that want saints to lose can get tae ****! That includes you Dr Jones ! Not be disappointed at a Saints loss, what if Mannus and Muzz came out with that pish? Couldn't care one bit if celtic win the next 40 league titles, Saints should be going out to try and win EVERY game they play in.

  3. I've heard this viewpoint before, but I care about St Johnstone being successful far more than the state of Scottish football. Aberdeen winning the league would be funny but i'd never celebrate another teams success. I'll take three days in some Eastern European city instead thanks!

  4. Absolutely bewildering for any Saints fan to want us to lose/ not be dissapointed if we do. We're challenging for fourth and a very decent chance of getting in to Europe for Christ sake. **** Aberdeen.

  5. It's not a lot if he was on form and had been all season but that's the big issue. His form took a dip a few months back now. He hasn't been a million pound player the past few months and at 25, he probably only has a few years before the edge comes off his blistering speed. As a club, we need deals like these to maintain our level, never mind progress. The club obviously set what they considered to be a realistic and more importantly a fair fee that would allow the player to leave. If we held onto him, not only would we be left with a depreciating, unhappy asset but we would be ruining Tommy's whole sales pitch for the club. If young players know they will be treated fairly and get the chance to move when one arises and if it meets our valuation. That will be a big plus when it comes to trying to get the next MOH in the door.

I forgot about Clancy and he was a smashing player for us for for a few months before he got injured. I felt bad for him getting crocked just before the cup final even if he wasn't going to be in the squad. He was a true pro and pepped up the squad. Lets hope this new lad does the same.

Hearts are a more skillful and pacey version of Hamilton. They are dirty, waste time and basically do whatever is necessary to get the points. There head coach comes across exactly that way in his interviews as well. Not a complaint, more an observation. The fact that Swanson didn't fit into that regime is no massive indictment on his footballing ability for me.

  9. Seen it all before. Gretna, Dundee, Motherwell, Livi. County are paying out money above their station if we can't match them financially. Of that I have no doubt.

  10. The guy can do no right. He brings in a Clancy or Hart as backup and is accused of wasting wages. he brings in a younger guy that has played in the teir below and he accused of signing sub par players. What should we be bringing in as cover?

  12. Another poster said he wouldn't mind if saints lost. I said I wouldn't be too upset if we did. Hardly the same. I'm sorry if saints get beat I'm all for jumping off Kinnoull hill Is that better

  13. Can you ask if mixed fans is able ? We all travel together to the game, we mixed in pubs where ever. Was there one Saintee arrested out of FIFTEEN THOUSAND who made the effort in 2014 and many fair weather saints made the journey ?

  14. What a change from the same referee that was in charge of our game on Saturday. Inconsistent, sh!te or just plain and simply a cheat. Would I be disappointed if we lost on Saturday, yes and no. We've been on a crap run of late but when you take the poison out a wound it starts to heal so I expect our general play to be a lot better.

  15. In reality what are the good times one of the best away days ever was watching Saints avoid relegation for the 2nd year in a row (Queen of the South 1976-77). There have been other good trips over the years it is all part and parcel of supporting a diddy team. Good times are to be savoured not so good times accepted, I for one would hate to be called a "fair weather" fan, and will continue supporting Saints through thick and thin.

  16. Just a thought on Craig Thompson here that a lot of people on here are not giving him much respect, he is a 20year old man I believe? yet some are saying he is to young to carry out his day job. Yet if he was in the Army he would be given a gun and told to fight the enemy? If he was and apprentice Plumber/electrician/refrigeration engineer he would be expected to carry out his job to his full extent. In lots of cases he will be a father/husband main bread winner for his family! Yet he is to young to run about for 90mins and play right wing for St Johnstone football club?

  19. This has banana skin for aberdeen all over it. Saints 2-1 Aberdeen put so much into the Celtic game, a well rested saints team on a small heavy pitch won't suit them at all.

  20. Arithmetically we can still win the league. Therefore I hope we win this game.

  21. I doubt if the Ross County figures include the free accommodation, bonus payments etc that their players get. They are in a similar position to Gretna, Dundee United (under Thomson the father) etc, were they are in the shit if the chairman either dies or tires of pumping his own money in and the person taking over has to try and run them on a sound basis.

  23. Nah it wouldnt be as good. I dont like Aberdeen, by any means, but it would be a nice send off to the "Armageddon era" if a non-OF side won the league.

  24. Presumably any attitude problem would have shown up last season and Tommy wouldn't have been so keen to sign him again. The Jambos had no time for him as he is a Hibs fan. (He'll get on fine with Chris.)

  25. While I can understand this viewpoint slightly more, In that situation a win would still be absolutely hilarious to be fair, imagine the joy you'd get from denying another team the title. Look at Dundee still having it large over Hearts 30 years later.

  26. Biscuit, your confused. This is no time for being indifferent to Saints winning this week. We need a win and when we're safe from the turmoil of the bottom 6 and not going to make the Euro spot that is the time to fold the tent on the season.

  27. http://sport.stv.tv/football/clubs/celtic/1321105-celtics-average-wage-bill-is-25-times-higher-than-ross-countys/ I also think Ross County have a better average attendance this season. Maybe time to realise the lack of ambition by the board dressed up as financial stability, shouldn't be used as a point scorer against other teams.

  28. Crying shame if that's it for Capn Dave. Hope it's some consolation being the best ever Captain of the greatest club in the world. Captain Cup Winner, and legend for always. At a guess, he'll spend the rest of the season working towards his badges, and I would be unhappy if Saints didn't support him every step of the way.

  33. A weight which should never have been put on Tommy or the players in the first place but for TRFC's obnoxious style of bidding for players by using PR puff pieces, rumour and innuendo via their compliant MSM outlets. In acting in the manner they did they clearly affected, IMHO, the entire squad throughout the month of December and, arguably, probably cost us an appearance in a league cup final. As for the SPFL allowing somebody to use their official website to further undermine our club well... I can't repeat my thoughts on here. A good point Al C - the blogger John James intimates as much in one of his threads - of course he may be shooting in the dark for reaction: "The biggest outlay of the current regime is circa £300,000 for O’Halloran. The hype that Waghorn is worth £3m is nonsense. Too many of his goals are from penalties. Any fee would be in six figures, not seven".

  34. just a thought on this don't mind losing lark, if saints had not won 5-1 up there then the Dons would be level on points with celtic (and we'd be in a bit of a pickle in the bottom 6.....).

Wright knows Swanson pretty well now and obviously knows he can work with him, so I wouldn't have many worries about the guy's attitude. If his attitude was a problem, I doubt we would have spent the last six months (on and off) trying to sign him.

  41. Aberdeen were good tonight, but Celtic were as bad as I've ever seen them play. That new guy up front was dreadful, and should have been off for stamping, and how the Rooney challenge wasn't a penalty and a red card I'll never know. Scott Brown was back to his best cheating and whinging. Loved it when Forrest came on and his first cross nearly went over the stand.

  44. Fisher had a shocker at Motherwell, but was decent up at Ross County. Back 4 looks like it picks itself.. Fisher, Ando, Shaughnessy, Scobbie. Think it sounds like Swanson is in for a start. That being the case I don't think Thomson will also start, as exciting as that sounds. looking forward to it. We'll be big underdogs for this one, which is back to where we're best. Time to get back below the radar and start quietly getting the results on the board. sleeves rolled up, and a fighting performance on Saturday. Let's get right behind our team right from the start!!

  47. Exactly. Too young at a month off 21. This club will never progress if they dont give youth a chance. Clark,Kane & Thomson are all old enough & good enough. Wrights reliance on ageing injury prone players cost us a place in League cup final.

Delighted he is back. On his game he is exactly what we need, someone who is able to take a man on and play dangerous passes into our strikers. He is decent at set pieces and also not afraid to shoot from distance. On his game, there are not many better entertainers in Scottish football.

    Letter from the club

It's one of my pet hates in football just now. It's media/ marketing type folk who probably aren't that into football who think the way to create an atmosphere is to pump up the music. So rather than hearing 18000 folk cheering and singing, you get some din over the speakers to drown everyone out. I can understand it if it's a routine match with a low crowd and no noise. As you say, they did it at the Scottish cup final as well.. I would have loved to hear 15000 Saints fans roar at once as we lifted the Cup.. It might be the only chance I ever get. Instead I get to hear some dance tune blaring out.
