The way this topic started certainly seemed negative to me. I'm a 42 year old who moved to Perth when I was 4 and left when I was 15 (not thro choice, my Dad was in the Prison Service) and have only been back to the town a handful of times- last time was approx 2001. I don't know anyone there anymore. I've moved around Scotland and Engerland quite a bit, and haven't seen many Saints games in that time. Shame on me I guess. I know I could have made more of an effort to see them but life gets in the way. I had the BEST childhood growing up in Perth (Craigie Primary and Perth High), up Kinnoull Hill (my Dad said it was Sinbad's Castle up there), swimming off Moncrieff island, catching sticklebacks in Craigie Burn, footy on the North Inch, Boys Brigade (was it St Matthews Church?), swimming in the Earn, and of course going to Muirton Park (and yes kids we did used to get in by being lifted over the turnstile by strangers who said that they were our Dads). I guess when I think about my support of the Saints it's intertwined with my whole time there and a throwback to the great times I had. I live in Coventry now and I'm proud to follow the Saints, even when most people who ask who I support expect I follow either Rangers or Celtic, and when I say St Johnstone they go "who?" and "where are they from?". The last time I knowingly met another Saints fan was about 1997. If I lived in Perth or within a decent distance then I have no doubt I'd have a season ticket, but I don't. I can honestly say that if there was a real shortage of tickets for regular match going fans then I wouldn't go, but how often is McD anywhere near full? That's not a criticism by the way- I love the fact that people give their lives to love and support to the club, I'm proud of you I really am. I'm going to Celtic Park with my Engerlish wife (who is so excited) and will savour every minute, I'll probably fill up when the team come out onto the pitch and cry like a baby if they win. If some people get sniffy about where most of the crowd has come from then they'll be in the minority.

    Eses Cup Final

We are about to set off for Turkey so thought I'd start a new thread for the actual final. Gordon Bannerman from the PA has been in touch so something may appear in the paper about the Saints/EsEs "Special Relationship" Hopefully I can get the technology to work and update everyone on what is happening in Konya - the final starts at 8m local time (2hrs in front of us) so it should be just about over when the Celtic game begins. Anyway here's hoping for 2 Cup Final wins and a "Super Cup" final at McDiarmid park Let's have some of this -

  3. We often have threads marking the passing of people who are known to us through being former footballers, well kent faces in Perth or actors or whatever, and many take the time to post 'RIP' or 'Sad News' to show their respects. Very few of these previous threads have hit home harder that this news however. As Athens said, I think we all felt an attachment to Elena due to her dad's status within the history of our club. Some of course will have known her personally. Add to that the fact that she was so young, and was obviously a very grounded, talented, considerate and thoughtful woman, then this is truly a terrible tragedy. I know Sergei made many friends in Perth and I hope that they can help him and his family through this difficult time.

  4. For those not on Facebook, there are plans to have a card display for when the team come out, with an organised chant/song just before it. Video below of the song we will do. Trying to see if we can get a trumpet player involved, but need to check with the police. Supersaint is going to coordinate it all hopefully, but we need as many fans as possible to know the plan and spread the word.

  5. Can the glorious Saintees in their 1st ever final attract the largest crowd at a Scottish Cup final for years? The record attendance this century is the 51824 who watched Celticv Hibs in 2001. With ticket sales pretty buoyant we must have a fair chance of surpassing that. C'mon Saintees keep buying those tickets and lets set a new record. CYS

  6. My wife's sister lives in Aberdeen but keeps an eye on Saints. I took her husband to the recent Saints v United game and he said he was quite ashamed that in all the years he'd visited Perth he'd never visited McDiarmid Park but said, as a neutral, he was very impressed with the way St Johnstone play football. Both of them are coming with me to the final. My father in law is from Essex and is West Ham fan. He's lived in Perth for many, many years though and is a believer in supporting your local club. Old age and other priorities mean that he doesn't go to many games. However, he is coming to the final with our group as he, and I quote "wants to see history being made". No show without punch, my mother in law is coming too. My brother runs a football team that my nephew plays in and, although my nephew is a Super J and has been a mascot, go to few games. They are also coming with me to the final. So, from a group of three (me and my two younger sons) that normally go to games, has swelled to 10 for a real family day out. Unfortunately my wife has to work or she would be there too. Does that make the 7 extra coming with me less as fans on the historical May 17th? Will it mean that they won't cheer on the team? Not one iota.

  8. Yes it is indeed. Sales have been fantastic. I admit that the unit price for 1 bottle of beer is relatively high, but we have still managed to raise a lot of money for the clubs youth development already. We could have reduced the price, but the cost of the beer, labels, packing time, packaging, courier costs and vat mean that we have to sell at this price to retain a profit for the club. The beer does taste very nice as well, and I am looking for a licenced shop to sell in Perth which will cut down on the postage costs and the packaging (about £8 cost per order postage and packaging) If anyone knows of any local shops with off sales alcohol licence who would like to stock the beer, get in touch. Well t my mum and dad are season ticket holders both now (87) as is the rest of their row in the main stand they have been all there for about 20 years , many off them are not now regulars as because when they get older they occasional shall we say find themselves unavailable to attend games, they all still buy their season tickets ( My Mum actually missed the whole season a couple years ago) , they are no going to the final. But they have ,sons daughter-in-laws, grandchildren, and possibly great grand children going (still trying to convince the parents ). These glory hunters are going because of them and to support this team called Saints that means so much to them.

I can't believe the press are making comment about the problems at the old firm final for the yoofs, where seats got ripped out just like last year. Rumour has it next years Glasgow cup final will be behind closed doors. I would have expected the press to bang on about how good it is to have the old firm playing each other again, and ignoring any problems. I confess I haven't read any tabloids so may have this wrong, but just what I heard. This just reinforces my belief that the world is a better place without Sevco anywhere near the top league, or better still, any league whatsoever.

  12. Not a criticism of the club as I understand the staff must be really busy at the mo but i am a wee bit surprised there has been no further updates on the number of tickets sold, when they will be on sell until (presumably a week on Friday)and a reminder as to how they can be bought. We want to sell as many as possible, wven if that means only 10s each day from now on. Agree with YellowBox I want to see as full a stadium as possible as its more money for saints and will make for a better occassion. But ultimately if we win the cup i wont give a sh*t.

  15. Terrible news to pass at such a young age. It is pretty amazing that she had the career that she did considering the health issues that befell her. Sergei is revered in Perth for his time with us and it would be nice to show our support for him and his family at the cup final.

  28. What sad, sad news. Doesn't seem very long ago that the Baltachas came to Perth adding a touch of cosmopolitan glamour and Elena & Sergei jr going to a local school. An inspirational young woman and former British number 1. Only a select few can say that about their life. Plus the fact she was a thoroughly decent, down to earth lassie. May she rest in peace.

  31. Whilst on my 20 mile run tonight I came up with a plan (at the pace I run at I had a lot of time to think) If saints fans can contribute over £100, ideally over £170 (May 17 et al) then if Saints win the cup final I will run the marathon the follwing week in a Saints top. I reckon I might just about have got over it by then. So far the Saints total is £30.

  34. Every award winner at Dumbarton POTY thanked Chris Kane for his contribution to Dumbarton football club this season. Pressing on the fact without his goals they maybe would not have managed to finish thifth. He has not been starting regularly due to illness and the fact they were safe from relegation and Murray wanted to play DFC players first and foremost. A very successful loan for Chris.

I'm going but haven't been a regular for a couple of years now having attended most games in the previous 30 years of my life, kind of gone off of football a bit in that time if I'm honest but Saints are still the closest thing to my heart after my family. I' m going on a bus with a few other guys who are going to their first game in a number of years who don't attend on a regular basis for various reasons and one or two who go all the time but not one of us will question who is the better fan. My wife will be going along too, having been introduced to the delights of following Saints on her 18th birthday because I wanted to go to the saints game and she wanted taken out for her birthday! My son will be attending having taken up the mantle of going every week from his parents. I just asked him how he would have felt had we not gone, after looking at me like I had three heads he told me he couldn't imagine not being there with us and wants us to be there to see OUR club go up to lift the cup. What would you rather we had done, stay at home and watch on the telly just so you could feel all smug about being part of a wee team who were the real fans and slag off the people of Perth for not supporting the local team. You can still have that wee thought in your mind and cast your eye around all these glory hunters joining the throng supporting your club if that's what turns you on or you can have a look round and hope that this reawakens a love for football or the club in people and we get another few hundred or a thousand following us next season. In answer to your question about what do Saints fans think of them, I think other posts have already made that clear, care to say what you think of us? Don't want to be negative about you but you've come across as a bit of a t*** with this thread, but no hard feelings, enjoy the game, enjoy being part of a historic occasion for the club, enjoy being part of being the biggest saints crowd at a game outside of Perth ever but most of all enjoy being amongst a group of people who are there to see your team and even if it's only for 90 minutes, it's their team too. Here's hoping we all wake up two weeks today proud to have been part of all of this and wondering where to catch a view of the open top bus amongst all of those people who didn't go but wished they had!

I used to have a season ticket for the main stand and went to most games with my Dad. Even after he passed I still went to most home games and a lot of away games in the central belt. Unfortunately bad health over the past few years and until recently a change of jobs which had strange hours I could not make as many matches. I am still a Saintee through and through, they are never far from my thoughts. I will be at the final with a friend who is not a Saint but knows how to administer my medicine if I take Ill. I had to argue with the Consultant to let me go, won that one. Now for Saints to win the final. COYS

Come on Dundee...good for Tayside ..great for Saints.... In recent years Dundee have brought a better support than either of the old firm. Armageddon... I don't think so.... 46. The Monday after the cup semis, the 'Sports Writer of the year' (Keith Jackson) began his review of the season with the following words, 'Now that the football is finished for another year....' ..........4 teams still in the hunt for European places, 5 teams still in the relegation dog fight, the best finish in the 2nd tier for years, and the Scottish Cup still up for grabs.......the football is hardly finished! This is however what we are up against. Had it been a Rangers v Celtic or even Aberdeen in the final, the SFA marketing department would have gone into overdrive, every avenue covered to make this the show piece event of the season. Dundee United v St Johnstone? Well the ticketing fiasco says to me the SFA consider this a diddy game of little consequence, the marketing of this game looks like a half hearted after thought. Much like Keith Jackson, the SFA appear to be of the opinion that diddies should sit nice and be grateful they are allowed into one of Glasgow 'neutral' venues. Well done to both clubs, total ticket sales rapidly approaching 40k and this wee scheme tops the lot, the fund only hours old and already over 12K...... I suspect we may heading for a near sell out, and extending a middle digit to the SFA and the Weegie media as we go. Heart warming stuff all round! http://www.thecourier.co.uk/news/local/dundee/fans-united-scottish-cup-final-fund-soars-past-12-000-1.346815
